Approaching Temenos Stemmaphaede begins with conversation. Reaching out is not an application, a commitment, or an assumption of eventual membership. It is simply an opportunity for you and the Grove to begin getting to know one another with curiosity, openness, and mutual respect.
Getting to Know the Grove
The process generally begins by contacting the Grove and introducing yourself. We will send you a short questionnaire that helps us learn a little about you, your interests, and what has drawn you to the Minoan Brotherhood. From there, we arrange a time to meet with members of the Grove, giving everyone an opportunity to talk, ask questions, and get to know one another.
This is a personal process rather than a formal enrollment. Meeting with us does not create an obligation on either side. It is simply an opportunity to explore whether Temenos Stemmaphaede and the Minoan Brotherhood may be a good fit for you, and whether continuing the journey together feels right.
Outer Court
Outer Court is the period in which a Seeker begins training with the Grove in preparation for possible initiation. This time includes study, practice, participation, and the development of relationships within our community. While Outer Court commonly lasts around a year, there is no automatic timetable or guaranteed progression toward initiation. It is a lived experience of learning, practice, and integration within the Tradition.
Initiation
The Minoan Brotherhood is an initiatory Mystery Tradition. Initiation represents entry into the Tradition rather than simply the completion of a course of study. It is not an automatic outcome of time spent in Outer Court. Deeper mythology, rituals, and Mysteries are reserved for initiates, encountered through initiation and the lived experience of the Tradition that follows.
Questions Seekers Often Ask
The Minoan Brotherhood is primarily a tradition for gay and bisexual men, though it is open to adult men who feel genuinely drawn to the Tradition and are comfortable with its spiritual current and all-male setting. We welcome sincere inquiries from those who approach the Brotherhood, its Mysteries, and our Grove with respect.
No. The Brotherhood was created for men who love men and is not limited to those who identify specifically as gay. Men of differing sexual orientations may find a home within the Tradition, provided its homoerotic spiritual focus resonates with them.
The Minoan Sisterhood is a related initiatory tradition created for women. A Sisterhood Grove also exists here in Salem, and we are happy to help interested seekers connect with them.
No prior experience with Witchcraft is necessary. We welcome those who come with a sincere desire to learn, an openness to the Tradition, and a willingness to participate in the work of the Grove.
There is no fixed timetable, though Outer Court commonly lasts around a year. The process is intentionally gradual, allowing time for study, practice, and the development of relationships within the Grove.
Absolutely. Reaching out is simply the beginning of a conversation. There is no pressure or obligation, and taking the time to explore whether the Tradition feels right for you is part of the process.
Outer Court involves regular participation in Grove gatherings, study, and personal practice. We understand that everyone has responsibilities outside the Grove, but consistent participation is important to the learning process and to becoming part of the community.
No. Our Brothers come from Salem, other parts of Massachusetts, and beyond. While some study and training can take place remotely when circumstances require, gathering in person is an important part of Grove life, and rituals are held in person.
We take privacy seriously. Inquiries from prospective Seekers are kept confidential within the Grove, and we do not share the names or identities of Initiates without their permission. This practice reflects a longstanding respect for discretion within the Craft and recognizes that a person's spiritual path is theirs to share when and with whom they choose.
No. We do not charge for Outer Court training or participation in the Grove. Seekers may occasionally have their own expenses related to study materials, ritual tools, or travel, but there is no fee for training.
Our Rites can be sexually charged and reflect the homoerotic nature of the Minoan Brotherhood. Sexuality and eroticism are recognized as sacred aspects of the Tradition and may be explored through ritual and magical practice. No one, however, is expected or required to participate in sexual activity, and personal boundaries and consent are always respected.
